How To :

People always ask me, ” How do I do this, or that, or what can I do approximately this other thing? So I thought I would start a page of ” How To do various things. How to make clean drinkable water from swamp water or drinkable water from salt water? How to jump start a car. How can you find dry firewood in a rain forest environment? How can I figure out whats wrong with my car? I turn the key & nothing happens!

There are a thousand things that can be made obvious to the public, in regard to ” How “, so I thought I might mention a few. Some of these things will be of no interest to many, as they don’t consider themselves to be tool users or mechanically inclined. I promise to be non-judgmental & make these things as simple as possible, without you feeling like I’m teaching 4th grade students.

I know I’m old school, meaning, many of the things I may tell you are old school now. Technology has changed a lot since I was young, so some of these things won’t apply to some of the newer products that have been marketed, & some of the newer products are not made to be messed with. I will try not to lead you astray or have you try to do something that might be dangerous to you or the thing you are hoping to fix or obtain working.

Here’s a list of things I may write about. Some may only require a paragraph to explain & other items may require a whole page to describe the problem or symptoms & a solution for it.

Jump start a car due to a dead battery.
Hot wire a car, bypass the key switch, jump the starter terminals.
Install or adjust fan belt or serpentine belt on vehicles.
Lighting the pilot light for a heater, stove, or refrigerator in your RV or cabin.
Setting up duel tanks for propane appliances.
Hooking up a battery bank.
Making drinkable water from various sources.
Using your vehicle as an electric power source, or a mechanical power source.
Felling a tree.
Alleviating water in fuel, for vehicles & gas power tools.
How to make fixes & changes on your computer.

That previous list could probably go on forever so I’ll just cut it short. There are lots of things people want to know how to do, & all too often misleading ideas as to how those things should be dealt with. The Internet is a tremendous source of both accurate information & misinformation, so be careful of the information you use. Some fixes for things may not work on a similar product, because of design changes. Many newer products are not manufactured in a way for them to be repaired. Check out a product before you buy it, so you may know whether it can be fixed or not.

I thought I might write on these things, as, when I wanted an answer, many times I couldn’t obtain one on the Internet or via a phone conversation to the company that should have been able to tell me what I needed to know. One case in particular involved the loss of connectivity on my laptop. Even the manufacturers & service folks couldn’t tell me how to obtain it working again. I figured out HOW finally, after I resorted to a different fix, & made the repairs to it, so maybe you’ll want to know how also. That different fix I used created another additional set of problems, that I had to learn how to fix as well. So I’ll tell ya approximately that too at some point, so be expecting more information on the subject of HOW.
